Joseph Gocsik
Managing Member, Forest Environmental Solutions, LLC

Joseph Gocsik was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. As a child he enjoyed exploring and mapping the trails, swamps, and ponds behind his childhood home. Always an outdoor enthusiast, he worked in landscaping while in high school and college. Joseph received his Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources degree from The Ohio State University in 1996.

In 1997, Joseph was hired as the Timber Forester for the 152,000-acre Withlacoochee State Forest where he was able to learn the “hands on” history of management practices in Florida and was introduced to the majority of habitats that currently exist.

After serving the public for 2 ½ years, Joseph chose to join a private forestry consulting firm in 2000 and served as a senior consulting forester and eventual division manager until January 2008.

In February 2008, Joseph created Forest Environmental Solutions, LLC “FES℠” to better serve client needs while providing them the best management services possible. “No challenge is too big, no landowner too small.  With innovative solutions come distinctive results”.

Please feel free to navigate the website and investigate the myriad of forestry and land management consulting services that we offer throughout the entire state of Florida. We pride ourselves on offering landowners the personal attention they deserve in the management of their lands by tailoring our services to efficiently and cost effectively meet their needs. Creating diverse opportunities and answering the evolving challenges landowners face in managing the resources within their properties enables us to provide “Innovative Solutions with Distinctive Results℠”.

Afforestation (planting trees where none previously existed) and Reforestation (replanting of trees) are essential to the future of our forests.

Joseph Gocsik FL-9218A is a Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and is also Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ) through ISA as well.

Environmental land management covers a wide spectrum of services. Landowners’ objectives have become more diverse through the years and the management of their properties has had to evolve as well.

Although most landowners would rather not spend their time in a courtroom setting, FES℠ is able to offer expert witness testimony services to defend their rights. FES℠ provides qualified third-party expert witness testimony in hearings, depositions, and trials.

The best way to manage a forest is to have a plan to help guide you. Forest and land management planning allows landowners the ability to evaluate their management needs based upon the current status of their property and their stated goals and objectives.

A key element in assisting landowners with developing their forest management plan and managing their property is a map. Properly created maps enable landowners the ability to manage their property in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Mitigation is the development of solutions to offset impacts that have occurred within wetland and/or upland environments. Mitigation efforts may include the preservation, enhancement, restoration, rehabilitation, or creation of various ecosystems either on-site or off-site of where the impact occurred.

Prescribed burning is an important tool in the enhancement of wildlife habitat, reduction of competing vegetation, and reduction of hazardous fuel loads to offset wildfire risk. Prescribed burning is also used for site preparation, restoration, and the rehabilitation of a site after a silvicultural treatment such as a timber sale, chemical application, or mechanical treatment has occurred.

Implementation of a management plan typically commences with some form of site maintenance. Site maintenance techniques are integral tools utilized to achieve the landowner’s objectives. Site maintenance practices can also improve access to the property, increase visibility, increase security, and enhance the recreational usage of the property.

Site preparation utilizes various management techniques to prepare all, or portions of a property, for future management needs. Typically, site preparation precedes afforestation, reforestation, mitigation, reclamation, and restoration efforts.

Timber sales are no longer just for those landowners interested in the high production of timber. More and more, timber sales are becoming a conduit for landowners to achieve the multiple-use goals and objectives they have for their property.

Timber valuation is an important step not only in the timber sale process, but throughout land management in general. Knowing the volume and value of your resources allows a landowner to account for the costs of management and create a plan for their property that is both scientifically and fiscally sound.

In order to have quality wildlife experiences on their properties, landowners must manage their land to enhance and possibly create favorable habitats. Planning is essential, and proper utilization of the various silvicultural techniques will ensure quality habitat for both the landowner and wildlife to enjoy.
